In a departure from my recent habit of using my Tamron 90mm macro lens, I reverted to my old macro setup this past weekend to try to take some dragonfly pictures at the Lady Bird Johnson Wildflower Center close to our home in Austin. This was taken with my Nikon 70-300mm VR lens stacked with about 50mm or so of extension tubes. I only got 2 frames of dragonflies in the hour I was there – for some reason there appear to be a lot fewer than usual just now – but thankfully both are acceptably sharp and this one is definitely a keeper.
This is a Blue Dasher (Pachydiplax longipennis) which is apparently one of the most common dragonflies around here.
