Before heading to New York last week, I had a many places that I was sure I wanted to visit but only a very few actual pictures that I knew I wanted to take. This was one of the pre-planned shots.
I’ve loved the Flatiron Building at 19th and Broadway for years but had not managed to visit it during either of my previous trips to Manhattan. This time, it was only 10 blocks from the hotel so I ended up down there 3 times in the 2 days were were in the city. Rather than shooting the usual wide-angle images showing the entire building, I wanted to capture a closely cropped image showing the symmetry and geometry. This was taken from a couple of blocks north with a long lens and I’m very happy with the outcome.

The Flatiron Building intrigues me, too. Yours is among the best photos I’ve seen of this building. Thanks for sharing.
Thanks, Mike – I’m glad you like this shot. It was one of my favourites from 2009.
