Today is this photoblog’s 2nd birthday! I didn’t have any images that were particularly birthday-themed so, next best thing, I found a shot I took on the day I posted my first image to the blog 2 years ago. February 15th, 2009 was also the day that my lovely and talented wife ran the Austin Half Marathon and the rest of us went to Lake Austin Boulevard to cheer her before heading into Mozart’s Coffee Shop to warm up. I had no tripod with me so this image is generated from a 3 exposure, handheld bracket with some scarily slow shutter speeds (hence the somewhat blurry result).
This image also marks a first for me. I reprocessed it using NIK software’s HDR Efex Pro, a tool that I suspect I will be using quite a bit from now on. I’ll write a more detailed review over on the blog once I’ve had a chance to play with it a bit more but my initial impressions are very good indeed. I’m not quite at the Photomatix level yet but the results I’m getting are reasonable even before I’ve read the manual and I love the user interface. More on this later.
I also did some final work using Topaz Detail, a plug-on that Dave Nightingale demonstrated while he was here and which impressed me greatly. So much so, in fact, that I asked the nice folks at Topaz if they would be kind enough to provide a discount code. If you buy any Topaz product and enter code ”DaveWilson” when you check out, you will get 10% off your purchase price.
Nice shot. I’m impressed with how clear it is. you’ve got a steady hand!

Amazing image, Dave. So much detail, and I love the processing. Have fun with HDR Effex Pro. I have been using it on a fairly regular basis and I’m really liking it as well.
