The boilers at Holly Street Power Plant are quite something. They sit in 6 or 7 story high enclosures but are actually engineered such that they are suspended from the top of the structure by huge springs. This shot shows an access hatch into one of the boilers on the 2nd floor (I think) of the building. Inside was amazingly dark and I’m rather surprised at how much detail I could capture in there given how much brighter the exterior portion of this shot was.
As an interesting aside, I notice a lot of dust artifacts in the dark areas (longest exposure sections) of the image. These annoyed me at first but, on reflection I’ve decided that they add to the mystery in the dark box. I’m very good at finding excuses to justify my mistakes.
Great display of rusty goodness!

Great catch, Dave. The sign adds some humor and irony to the image.

Rusty goodness! Love the composition and slightly vignetted framing.
This is great, Dave. Dig all that delicious texture in the rust 🙂
