I’ve posted a couple of previous images showing the USS Texas but this one, also an HDR, has an interesting post-processing tale behind it.I loved the shape of this cover over the anchor chain carrier on the ship but, unfortunately, renovation was ongoing and it was covered in splotches of orange/red paint:
Obviously, this wouldn’t work but, by making the image monochrome and carefully tweaking the channels used to convert the colour image to black-and-white, I could completely remove any hint of the visually distracting shape and colour of the rustproofing. After this, I duotoned the images (warmed the highlights and cooled the shadows), added a couple of curve layers to highlight particular areas of the ship, and mixed in the sky from one of the original exposures (after matching the duotone settings) to get rid of some tonemapping artifacts. What do you think?
