Sisal Machinery

During our recent trip to Uxmal, we stopped for lunch at Hacienda Ochil, a historic sisal plantation that has been renovated for visits and as a centre promoting contemporary Mexican art.

Sisal fibre is used to make mats and ropes and derives from a type of agave plant. This machine was presumably used in processing the plants but as were several others found scattered around the main area of the hacienda.

For the technically inclined...

  • Aperture: ƒ/8
  • Camera: E-M1MarkII
  • Focal length: 24mm
  • ISO: 200
  • Shutter speed: 1/6s
