I spent some time down in the Seaholm area of downtown Austin yesterday afternoon and got a chance to play with a new toy, the Rokinon 7.5mm f/3.5 fisheye lens. It’s completely manual (hence the fact that the EXIF data doesn’t show the aperture) but easy to use with focus peaking enabled in the camera. The results are really impressive given that it sells for just over $200.
This scene is on 3rd Street just north of the new Central Library. The street is pedestrianized and this old tressle bridge has been left over Shoal Creek with a new pedestrian bridge running alongside it.
On a completely unrelated note, this blog turned 10 years old last weekend. The first posting was on February 15th, 2009 and this is now the 3100th picture I’ve added.
For the technically inclined...
Nice photo and congrats on anniversary. While this bridge tells a story as is, assuming that the structure is relatively sound for foot (or scooter) traffic then it seems like a matter of time before funds are made available to refurbish it. does the marker at E end of bridge indicate something about it or something unrelated to the bridge?
Thanks, William! I hate to admit it but we didn’t walk to the other side of the bridge to see if anything was posted over there. The bridge is definitely not intended for any kind of traffic these days. There’s a shiny, new concrete pedestrian bridge immediately to the left (you can see its metalwork uprights in this picture) and the old bridge is, I suspect, merely for historical context. It looks cool but is no longer functional!
