Friday night football games in Dripping Springs have, until this year, been amazing community events. A high percentage of the town turned up to support the high school team, the band marched at half time, the cheerleaders cheered, students in the grandstands jumped up and down enough to keep a structural engineer awake.
2020, however, is rather different. Ticket sales are capped at 25% capacity but many appear to be buying them as a gesture of support and not coming to the stadium. The smaller-than-usual band is seated in a dark area my the north end zone, marching shows are on hold.
I took this photo at the start of the third quarter during last Friday’s home game against Lehman High School at Dripping Springs Tiger Stadium. At least the cheerleaders are still cheering.
