Oklahoma City National Memorial I

We took a drive up to Kansas this week to spend Thanksgiving with Cameron and, rather than drive the whole way in one day, broke the journey in Oklahoma City. While there, we took some time to visit the Oklahoma City National Memorial which offers an amazingly moving, reflective and tranquil remembrance to the 168 people who lost their lives in and around the Alfred P. Murrah Federal Building at 9:02 in the morning on April 19th, 1995.

Two black-clad arches inscribed 9:01 and 9:03 bracket the time of the attack at either end of a reflective pool. To one side, 168 chair sculptures are arranged, one per victim, according to the floor they were on at the time of the attack.

For the technically inclined...

  • Aperture: ƒ/10
  • Camera: E-M1MarkII
  • Focal length: 20mm
  • ISO: 200
  • Shutter speed: 15s
