On the morning of the day we visited Varaždin, we also headed to Trakošcan Castle, another famous historic building on northern Croatia. Oddly (to me, at least), we had the place completely to ourselves and we spent 90 minutes or so exploring the well-preserved interior and enjoying the large number of portraits of oddly-shaped 17th century feudal lords (did Croatians in the 1600s really have no shoulders? We suspect the artist was likely a friend of the family 🙂 ).
