Factory Butte Reflection

Factory Butte, a dramatic feature just outside Hanksville in Utah, was undoubtedly my favourite location on both of our past NxNW trips to Utah. This dramatic, knife-thin butte sits isolated in the centre of an area of, probably, 9 square miles covered by ridges radiating from its base. It forms a breathtaking view at sunrise and sunset as the side light highlights the amazing textures of the landscape.

I’ve ended up with many keepers from both of our visits during the most recent trip so I’m going to run a whole week of images starting today with this infra-red shot showing the butte reflected in a stock pond shortly after sunrise on October 5th, 2022.

For the technically inclined...

  • Aperture: ƒ/4.5
  • Camera: E-M5MarkII
  • Focal length: 24mm
  • ISO: 200
  • Shutter speed: 1/250s
