Moonscape Sunrise

Another favourite location that we revisited during our October NxNW trip to Utah was Moonscape Overlook (also known as Skyline View) near Hanksville. Here, the edge of the plateau drops a thousand feet or so onto a grey, ridge-covered landscape that really does look like old Apollo photos from the surface of the moon. This is a drone shot looking along the cliff line just as the sun crested the eastern horizon. The bright areas on the lower ridges here look like frost or snow but are actually salt deposits as far as I can tell.

For the technically inclined...

  • Aperture: ƒ/2.8
  • Camera: FC3411
  • Exposure bias: -1.3EV
  • Focal length: 8.38mm
  • ISO: 100
  • Shutter speed: 1/350s
