Calypso Pass

Yesterday was a lot of fun! I spent the day at Joint Base San Antonio-Randolph for the annual Great Texas Airshow during which I took somewhere around 2400 frames that I’m now going through looking for the good ones. So far, this is one of my favourites and shows a calypso pass performed by the USAF Thunderbirds’ two solo F-16s during their display. If you look closely, you’ll see that Thunderbird 5’s number is displayed upside down since, as the lead solo aircraft, it spends most of its time during the show inverted.

You’ll be able to find all my pictures from the show at https://davewilson.smugmug.com/Events/Great-Texas-Air-Show-2024 once I’ve finished editing them.

For the technically inclined...

  • Aperture: ƒ/6
  • Camera: OM-1
  • Exposure bias: +5/10EV
  • Focal length: 227mm
  • ISO: 200
  • Shutter speed: 1/2000s
