Thunderbird Detail, Dick’s Classic Garage

Sorry for the lack of a posting yesterday. I had something queued up but the day was so busy that I completely forgot to press the button to actually post it.

Did I mention that yesterday was busy? It started early with a visit to Precision Camera to pick up a rented 300mm f/2.8 for later in the day. I then high-tailed it down to the Lyndon Baines Johnson Presidential Library to meet Andrew Heinsohn for some shooting around Austin. After the library and Capitol, we headed south, grabbing pizza on the way, to meet up with Trey Ratcliff’s mega-Austin Photo Walk. The weather was absolutely atrocious so we abandoned the group for a warm seat and a cold pint in the Driskill Hotel then I headed out to the Travis Expo Center to shoot the rodeo for the evening.

I learned several things yesterday:

  • My super-comfotrable boots need replaced since they have holes in the soles.
  • The weatherproofing on my D700 really works (thank goodness)
  • The lighting in the rodeo arena hasn’t improved since last year.
  • Even though the LBJ Library pretends to be closed, you can still get into the main room on the second floor and take pictures.
  • You can always find new things to shoot in the Texas State Capitol

I’ll be rolling out pictures from these events over the next couple of weeks but, for today, here’s another archive shot from my visit to Dick’s Classic Garage in San Marcos late last year.
