Well, it’s that time of year again – Rodeo Austin has just closed and I have a large collection of new shots showing grown men being thrown around like rag dolls. This is my favourite of the shots taken during the saddle-back competition – I bet 8 seconds seems like an eternity to this rider!
As before, lighting in the arena is really trickly so most of these shots are taken at dangerously high ISO levels. The D700 does a good job up at 4500 and 6400ISO but a couple of stops of extra illumination (or a D3s or D4) would likely help a lot.
Great expression on that cowboy’s face Dave – you can see the anguish and determination, and a hint of fear! Sounds like justification for a new D4, huh? Good luck!

Thanks, Jim. There’s no D4 in my future, though – I can find many other uses for the $6,000 that that particular camera would set me back!
