Dean Kamen, FIRST Founder

One of the other hats I wear is as a (junior) mentor to Dripping Springs High School robotics team, “The Spring Konstant” (FRC 6357). We’re right in the middle of our 6 week build season for this year’s FIRST Robotics Competition so I took some time looking through old photos taken at FRC competitions I attended and will spend this week posting some of my favourites. To start things off, here’s Dean Kamen, inventor, engineer, all-round inspirational guy and founder of the FIRST organization (“For Inspiration and Recognition of Science and Technology”). This was taken at the FRC Midwest Regional competition in Chicago on March 25th, 2011.

For the technically inclined...

  • Aperture: ƒ/2.8
  • Camera: NIKON D700
  • Focal length: 200mm
  • ISO: 1250
  • Shutter speed: 1/350s
