This year’s F1 weekend featured a couple of performances by major groups. I missed Imagine Dragons on Friday night but was there to watch Pink on Saturday. I was standing about a mile from the stage but, thankfully, she did some pretty cool aerial stuff so got a few pictures over the heads of the people in front of me.
It strikes me that the strategy of hiring major acts to perform at the track has really expanded the appeal of the weekend and broadened the base of attendees significantly. As a side effect, getting more people to visit will also, likely, increase awareness of and interest in F1 racing in the US. Whereas previous years I noticed many people arriving late in the day, just in time for the major performance, this year I got the impression that most people came earlier to see the racing then attended the show.
