This past weekend was Founders’ Day in Dripping Springs, Texas and, with it, a huge barbecue competition that takes place in the centre of town on Saturday and Sunday. This is always a highlight of the year for me though, this year, it was slightly less fun since the Friday parade was cancelled due to bad weather. I spent most of Saturday wandering Mercer Street and the surrounding area taking in the culinary delights, catching up with old friends and photographing some new ones.
This is a portrait of Les, patriarch of the Lone Star BBQ and Chili Team, who can always be found at exactly the same place each year, handing out barbecue and some of the best homemade tortillas you’ll find anywhere.
