We visited the US Space and Rocket Center in Huntsville, Alabama this morning and, as a bona-fide space nerd, I had a fantastic time. Usually, I would post some abstract image of flight hardware (and I have a few of those for later in the week) but the best part of today’s visit was spending about an hour talking to this gentlemen, Ron Paulus, a docent at the centre and a retired-NASA project engineer who worked on Apollo, Skylab and Shuttle missions during his time with the agency. Not only did I learn a bunch of technical information about the Apollo missions that I didn’t already know, but Ron also told many a yarn of life at NASA during the 1960s and a few behind-the-scenes tales that didn’t make the news. If you’re at the center, search for Ron or one of the other docents and engage them in conversation – it will be the highlight of your visit.
For the technically inclined...
Ron, you are most welcome! If you would like a larger copy of the picture, please drop me an email (or use the contact form) and I’ll get one to you. Thanks, again, for our fascinating conversation!
I met Ron in March 2018. We remember Ron to this very day. A very kind and smart man.
Ron made our trip last June a special one also. I went to the Family Space Camp, “Avuation Challenge” with my son for a long weekend. We had a blast!! ? Met Mr Paulus in the museum and he was delightful. He ended up sitting with us at lunch. Wow! The incredible stories he had!!! I’m hoping my son will go to Space Camp this summer 2025.
