Our first stop yesterday morning was the Alaska Raptor Center in Sitka. The center rescues and rehabilitates injured birds from the local area and farther afield (one current resident came from the mid-west), releasing them back into the wild after they recover. Most current patients are bald eagles though we also saw some golden eagles, a few owls and a peregrine falcon. This particular bird, named Spirit, is one of the center’s few permanent residents, unable to be released due to the nature of her injuries which were sustained in 2016 when she was hit by a car.
