If you are the proud owner of a shiny new DSLR who’s keen to start on the road to some really great photographs, have we got the class for you! This two morning class, team-taught with Simi Shonowo of Uche Photography, will teach you the basics of photography and camera operation, and introduce various concepts of composition to help you move from snapshots to some really creative photography.
During the first morning, we’ll discuss the meaning of exposure and the camera controls used to adjust exposure. We’ll then cover the creative aspects of exposure choice – how to blur backgrounds, how to freeze action and how to choose shutter speed and aperture appropriately for the kind of subject you are photographing.
After the technical portion of the class, we’ll move on to discuss composition techniques and some guidelines you can use to make your images more appealing. The class will end with a 1 hour outdoor shoot near the gallery during which we will demonstrate the techniques discussed and help students with finding the appropriate settings on their camera so that they can practice during the following week.
Week 2 of the class will be a show-and-tell with students showing a collection of images shot in the previous week based on lessons learned at the class. We will project photos and discuss them, providing helpful critique.
This class is limited to 16 participants.
