Contrasts, Hyderabad, India

I’m posting this image from one of my trips to India in response to a challenge from Younes Bounhar who encouraged people to post images on the theme of “Contrast”.

The contrast here is pretty obvious and illustrates very well one of the aspects of India that I found most strange and disturbing – the close integration of extreme poverty and extreme wealth in Indian society. Shanty towns next to luxury condos and cardboard shacks on vacant lots in developments of million dollar homes seem to be the norm.

This image was taken from the grounds of the pristine office block I was working in. Next door, new buildings were going up and the building workers were living in a collection of temporary shacks down on the site.
