I shot this image of Stevie Ray Vaughan’s statue on the south bank of Lady Bird Lake in Austin last night at the end of a rather fun photowalk. It shows the statue with the Austin skyline in the background (although you could probably guess that).
This image was created from 4 exposures. The first three were used to generate and HDR image which was used to create the background. The statue itself, however, is pitch black at this point since there is absolutely no lighting on it. The final exposure was about 6 seconds long during which time I popped a flash at the statue 5 or 6 times to light it up a bit. I then mixed this image with the HDR to create the final version you see here.
Although the overall image looks pretty much exactly as I had intended, I failed to use a small enough aperture to get both SRV and the background sharp. Oh well – I guess that gives me an excuse to go back and try again some other time.
