Pedernales Falls State Park

Texas is enormously fortunately to have a wonderful Parks and Wildlife Department who manage a large collection of State Parks.

One of the closest to us is Pedernales Falls just outside Johnson City. Here you will find some spectacular hikes along the Pedernales River as it drops over various rock shelves and creates some amazing erosion patterns.

Pedernales Falls is also the location of our annual Cub Scout family camping weekend in October and this photo was taken during one of those camps. Despite the fact that it’s only 30 minutes away, I have to admit I have yet to make it out there on a purely photographic excursion.

If you are a bird photographer, allegedly the blinds here are some of the best in the state.
