Mount Doom

Another archive shot, this time taken in 2007. This images shows Santa Maria volcano in western Guatemala. At the time I was there, it was erupting about once an hour and provided a very spectacular backdrop to the village I was working in with a group from the Presbyterian Church.

The drama of this version reminded me very much of Peter Jackson’s rendering of Mount Doom in “The Lord of the Rings.”

Thanks, all. The last version of this shot is here on Flickr. It’s not radically different but I fixed some sky problems and pulled a bit more detail out of the foreground. I really should post the original frame since seeing that makes the final result look very much more impressive due to the low contrast and haze in the original.
