Travelling east from California, it’s fascinating to watch the pattern of development. The population density on the west side of the mountains is pretty enormous but hit the hills and development essentially stops and, aside from a few scattered communities, you spend the next couple of hours flying over more or less totally undeveloped mountains and desert.
This shot shows one of those west-side towns just before the jagged, faulted landscape blocks further large-scale development.
