Here’s another tripod-free zone in New York City though, in this case, I wasn’t too worried because the folks enforcing the ban were pleasant and had a sensible reason for not allowing tripods (the cathedral is busy and a tripod would cause traffic problems for all the folks walking around).
Once again, I shot this with a Gorillapod
attached to the back of one of the pews. I could pretend that the jaunty composition was exactly what I wanted but the choices were rather limited by the set of positions I could get the camera into while having the Gorillapod stable enough not to fall off the pew during the bracket! 🙂
Looks like a good improvisation Dave. The detail and lines are quite good, and the blue from the stained glass is alos attractive!

Thanks, Jim. This was shot with a Sigma 10-20mm with the aperture rather far open. That lens had a tendancy to be unsharp on the right side below f/11 and you can see that pretty well in this image. The left side is pin sharp but the right is blurry. I gather that is (was?) a reasonably common fault with that lens.
Looks awesome Dave, what a great POV! I’ve walked by St. Patrick’s a bunch of times but never went it! Well shot!

Dave – You’ve never been inside St. Patrick’s? It’s fabulous and definitely worth a visit with a camera (and something other than a tripod to stabilise it).
Just stunning Dave. I love the perspective and the way you’ve processed this shot.
