I shot a job for a writer friend of my wife’s last weekend. Bethany Hegedus is a children’s book author from Austin and she’s just renovated this lovely barn which she is renting out to other writers as a retreat location, party venue and teaching space. It’s fabulous inside and includes a kitchen, bedroom, large communal area (seen here), great mezzanine sitting area and a huge screened porch.
The final shots I sent to her were natural-looking images generated using exposure blending but I rather liked the look of this tone-mapped version of one of the shots so here it is. You can see the shots I delivered over on my Google+ photo album.
i find this very unappealing, it hurts to look at this. not all hdr(s) are “bad” but this one is.
Dror,
Thanks for your comment. I’m a huge believer in trying not to just state an opinion without offering some helpful critique. This applies to the typical “great image!” comments but applies double when I’m being negative about an image. Do you have any feedback that may help me understand what, specifically, you feel makes this a “bad” image? Is this just a matter of personal taste (which is perfectly fine) or are there technical or compositional aspects that you feel I got wrong but could be corrected in another version?
