DFW-SJC: Volcanic Cone

Once again, I’ve been working my way through my unedited photos so it’s time for another mini-series. All the shots for the next week were taken out the window of an American Airlines Super-80 on a flight between Dallas-Fort Worth and San Jose 2 years ago this week.

These were all taken using my Canon G9, a great compact that I carry with me most of the time. It tends to accumulate pictures over several weeks or even months before I get round to downloading them and then, often, I mark them for later edit and forget about them for, in some cases, a couple of years. I must get better at handling these shots in a timely manner!

Getting back to this particular image, it shows a volcanic cone somewhere over the desert of Arizona, Utah or eastern California. I’m amazed at these igneous outcrops that sit on top of a predominantly sedimentary landscape. This was definitely a texture image to me so I processed it as a monochrome and decided that I liked the look so did the same with the other 5 images you will see in upcoming posts.

Great one Dave. Looks like an impressive bit of landscape.

As for your delay in downloading and processing images, there’s a great podcast with some nice workflow tips around 😉
