Smith & Bell at Dusk, Houston, Texas

Here’s another shot from my favourite corner of downtown Houston. The large building on the right is occupied by Chevron now though it was originally built for Enron.

For those interested in technical details, this is a single shot with minimal post processing. Most of the other images I made down here used HDR or, at least, exposure blending but this one worked fine for me without any trickery.

What a beautiful shot Dave. The late light against those buildings are perfect! I was there in August at 4 PM, the light was much different and the photo ops not very good. Glad to see a good one of this spot!

Beautiful shot Dave. There’s so much going on…in a good way…the reflections on the building, the silky water, the blue hour light…love it.

Thanks, all!

Interestingly enough, this photo was taken after I completely failed in my original quest – to find a location that would allow me to shoot an HDR panorama of the Houston skyline. Next time I’m down there, I’ll find the right spot but, for now, all I have is a nice collection of blue hour shots of these individual buildings.

Sweet shot, Dave. What captures my eye is the detail on the “Chevron Building”, from that angle and in that light you are able to see the individual decks that are stacked on one another (and the lighting, interior dividers and furniture placed on them) and that wonderful curve of glass. It really gives you a sense of what the components of these towers are.

I love great architectural pieces, and this is a truly great example of one! Awesome composition here, and I love the tones and lines inherent in this fabulous shot!
