Train, Austin Zoo

Things have been getting distinctly monochromatic here of late so let’s throw some colour back into the mix.

Last Saturday, I spent the morning shooting Austin Zoo for TravelHost magazine. I was shown around by Patti Clark, the zoo’s president, and it was a fascinating morning.

Austin Zoo is a rescue zoo and animal sanctuary so all the animals there were at one time private pets (yes, even the tigers), rescued from cruelty by various organisations or taken in after the zoos and animal parks they were living in were closed.

We were members of the zoo for several years when our kids were younger and one of their favourite parts of any visit was a ride on the miniature train that steams around the grounds. Looking at the crowds lining up on Saturday, it seems that this is still a popular attraction.
