Honolua Creek Bed, Maui

Honolua Bay on Maui is a fascinating place. Not only does it offer some great snorkeling (as long as you swim a couple of hundred feet away from the main entry point where the reef is pretty badly damaged by run-off and, presumably, people) but there is also a fabulous section of rain forest between the parking area and beach.

On our first visit there, we had to ford a sizable creek to get down to the beach so, when I returned with the camera a couple of days later, I was very surprised to find absolutely no trace of water in the creek bed – it was now a river of pebbles through the lush forest.
