Signing Table

Apologies for the gap in photoblog coverage yesterday but it’s been a whirlwind of a week and I couldn’t find the time to get a picture ready.

As you will no doubt know if you’ve been following the last week’s posts, this was a big week in our family since my wife’s first novel was published on Tuesday and we had a day of events on Saturday to celebrate. Everything went really well – Book People, Austin’s excellent independent book store, hosted the official launch party and we had somewhere between 250 and 300 people show up. This was the largest crowd they had seen since Bill Clinton visited a couple of years ago. They also sold out of every copy of the book they had ordered! We were all rather surprised at the number of friends and relatives who walked up to the signing table with 3, 4 or even 5 copies.

I acted as tech support and official photographer for the event. If you want to take a look through the snaps, you can find them all here. In the meantime, here’s one which includes someone you may recognise from one of my previous posts.

It’s great to see such a community event in a local bookstore, well done to your wife for the publication and for such a turn out.

As an Amazon reviewer appears to think that the book can be just as appealing to adults as to tweens I have gone ahead and ordered a copy (2 – 4 weeks delivery); besides, I do enjoy children’s and teen fiction anyway and feel there’s nothing wrong with adults reading something other than adult fiction – plus I know a few people I can pass the book onto once done. The only downside is that I don’t think it will be delivered with any of those wonderful looking donuts that are in your snaps.

Thanks – I’ll pass on the congratulations to Nikki! 2 to 4 weeks delivery and the book has only been out for 6 days? It looks as if Amazon really didn’t order enough copies after all! Mind you, I don’t know if the UK orders are being sent from the US or whether Penguin in the UK is fulfilling them. I hope you enjoy the book when it arrives though.
