We had a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity to see the Space Shuttle Endeavour and Shuttle Carrier Aircraft last Thursday morning when they made a low level flypast of downtown Austin on the way from Kennedy Space Center in Florida to the California Science Center in Los Angeles.
I parked myself on the south lawn of the Capitol, hoping to get a shot of the combo flying behind the Capitol Dome but they flew too far south, too low and too fast for that so I only managed to snag a few close-ups with absolutely no Austin context whatsoever.
You can read the whole story of how I messed things up that morning over on my blog but here’s one of the usable half dozen frames that I rescued using Lightroom. I said that the whole thing was over in about 6 seconds but, in retrospect, I had about 3 seconds shooting time since I was rattling off 5fps and managed to get 12 frames captured before the shuttle disappeared from view.
Still pretty cool Dave, even without Austin in the shot!
