Facebook at a Concert

Can you survive without your smartphone? Do you start to get the jitters if you go an hour without access to Facebook and Twitter? I must admit that I’m a bit of a slave to my iPhone but hopefully I’m not at the “incurable addict” stage just yet.

I took this picture at the “COTA Club” – Austin Convention Center repurposed as a huge night club where headliner concerts took place during US Formula 1 weekend last November. This young lady was checking her Facebook prior to Enrique Iglesias’ performance.

During the show, it was rather amusing to see the sea of smartphones held above heads recording the concert despite all the signs warning of dire consequences for bringing recording devices into the building!

I can relate to the “dire consequences”. Attended a Dylan concert with friends here in Dallas recently… the “camera police” were really getting into their act. One fellow almost got thrown out, he was accosted by camera police several times after checking the time using his phone. The last time he was reprimanded he stood up and did the “Heil Hitler” routine for the benefit of the camera police… nearby audiance thought it was hysterical. BTW Dylan still cant sing, really hard to understand his words… even more so since he’s aged 😉 CSN was a much better show.
