Freak Out at the Rodeo Carnival

I love shooting long exposures of the carnival rides after dark. This ride has been a favourite subject of mine for a few years now though I’ve yet to capture a really great image of it. This is better than my last version but there’s still something not 100% right about it to me. Most likely, it’s the fact that there is absolutely no colour in the sky. Anyway, let me know what you think.

For the technically inclined, this shot actually uses flash in addition to the long exposure. The ”Freak Out” sign’s lights weren’t all working and it was rather too dark after the basic exposure so I popped it with a flash partway through and that brightened it up significantly.

I like the mix of sharp and abstract swirl. This gives a great impression of the Ride in motion. I also like the black sky – all distraction is eliminated.
