I spent last weekend “living the dream” with a bunch of photoblogger buddies out in the Moab, Utah area where we woke up way too early, stayed out way too late and generally made lots of photographic magic in some of the most spectacular landscape you’ll find anywhere in the United States.
I’ve only just downloaded the pictures and haven’t had time to do a lot of processing yet but here’s the first image. This was taken in Canyonlands National Park about 90 minutes or so after sunrise. The silhouetted figure is Justin Balog taking his life in his hands, perched on the edge of a rather precipitous drop.
If you want to see more of the work produced by myself, Justin, Bob Lussier, Mike Criswell, Chris Nitz, Rick Louie and Mark Garbowski, search either Twitter or Google+ for the hashtag “#NXNW”, or visit the blogs linked here.
Darn it! I obviously missed a couple of pretty prominent dust spots in this one. I’ll fix that before it ends up being printed!
Really awesome image Dave! Can’t wait to see more from all of ya!
Boom…my day here is done! Totally pro.

I’m feeling particularly dumb for having passed on this shot. But then, mine might not have been this good. Fantastic job, Dave.

Thanks, gents! Justin, you were a real troopah standing out there on the edge of the abyss to let us get this shot.
I may have to go warm in my version, when I get to processing it.
Oh … and my image tomorrow will be a shot of you, Dave, from Dead Horse.

I have several others that I processed to look more sunrisey but I reckoned no-one else would try a cool tint so I thought I would be enormously original and go with this version today. No doubt, there will be several similar images posted over the next few weeks!
Wow Dave! Awesome image! You guys are brave! 🙂

Nope, Rachel, when it comes to heights I am most definitely not brave. Justin, on the other hand, is completely fearless and, in my opinion, a total nutcase. He was prancing around on the edge like some kind of mountain goat 🙂
Fantastic layers of recession and the photographer is in precisely the right spot. What a gem of a shot.
