I spent a fabulous day out at Circuit of the Americas on Saturday, taking pictures at the inaugural “Austin 400” V8 Supercars race. Although this racing series is practically unheard of in the US, it’s Australia’s equivalent to NASCAR and is enormously popular down under.
In this shot, we see Jamie Whincup of Red Bull Australia driving his Holden Commodore towards victory in the first of 4 100 mile races. Whincup went on to win 3 of the 4 championship races at the event.
Great work again as usual, Dave! I like how you have the leader as the main subject below with the line of cars behind going up the frame and the last car is in a perfect spot when you snapped the shutter. Well done! And may I add, I’m jealous that you go to all of these events out there! That’s awesome!

Thanks, Evan. I shot pretty much every car that passed from this position to ensure that I had a shot of the winner in the foreground! The Red Bull cars led for pretty much the whole race, though. As regards being lucky to shoot out here, all it takes is a ticket. I’m still on the lookout for a media pass (I had one for MotoGP but only found out about it after the race 🙁 ) but that’s proving trickier than just getting a general admission ticket and shooting from the grass areas.
Great comp Dave, well done, looks like a blast to shoot
