Sarcophagus, Houston Museum of Natural Science

We’re just back from a fun-filled weekend which included a trip down to Houston to visit the phenomenal museums down there. My favourite is definitely the Houston Museum of Natural Science which is as good a museum as you will find anywhere in the world, and a great deal better than the majority I’ve visited. They are about to open a new exhibit on ancient Egypt and, as members, we got in a week early for a preview. Although I couldn’t use a tripod, I shot quite a few pictures handheld and will post a couple this week.

The exhibit as a whole is beautifully presented (you would think you are walking through an ancient temple as you make your way through the hall containing the artifacts). The highlight for me was the collection of wonderfully decorated sarcophagi. The colours are so much more vibrant than I would have expected of items as old as these are but, just to keep you in suspense a bit longer, here’s a monochrome image of one of them 🙂
