Solitary Tern

Living as we do in Central Texas, we don’t get to the beach very often. When we do hit the coast, however, our beach of choice tends to be Mustang Island State Park near Corpus Christi. At only 4 hours away, it offers a great beach within a reasonable amount of weekend driving.

The beach and shore are great for the kids but it also has a wealth of wildlife to observe. On our last visit, a flock of tern were running around searching for food among clumps of seaweed. They are beautiful birds on the ground but just magical when they take to the air.
