Seldom when we are driving anywhere do I ask my wife to stop the car so that I can take a picture. During our drive through West Texas last weekend, however, I couldn’t pass up this opportunity.
Energy is big business in the panhandle. Oil has been king for a century but now enormous (and I mean REALLY enormous) wind farms containing literally thousands of turbines are popping up on the windy plains. I used to rather like the lines of 20 or 30 sedately spinning wind generators you would see on hilltops in California or Europe but, frankly, there are so many turbines out here that I can understand why some people now consider them an eyesore.
Regardless of my opinion of wind turbines, though, I loved the contrast in this shot with the old nodding donkey and the new windmills sharing the same field.
The intersection of past and future. Nice capture.
