Taipei 101 Sunset

I’ll preempt the summer road trip photos that I had queued up for this week and post a shot I took last night from the roof of my hotel here in Taipei. The light was pretty spectacular when I arrived back here so I shot up to the rooftop pool and grabbed some images of Taipei 101. I’ll have to wait until I get home to process most of these but this one and a couple of others looked good to me so I’ll sneak them in while I’m still out here.

At 1667 feet, Taipei 101 was the world’s tallest building between its completion in 2004 and the opening of Burj Khalifa in Dubai in 2011. It stands 101 floors high and also has 5 underground floors.

Among its many geeky features, the building features a very cool tuned mass damping system to stabilise it during earthquakes and typhoons. The main element of this is a 660 tonne spherical pendulum bob suspended between the 87th and 92nd floors.

You can read more about Taipei 101 on Wikipedia.

    Patrick,

This was taken from the roof of the Shangri-La Far Eastern Hotel. The views from up there are fantastic!
