Californian Condor

I was very surprised to discover that there are Californian Condors at the Grand Canyon. We were fortunate enough to spy one while there a week or so ago.

You can read more about the remarkable efforts to save this beautiful bird from extinction here. I was aware that they were seriously endangered but had no idea that the global population had dropped as low as 22 in the late 1980s. Today, there are around 400 birds of which 73 are in southern Utah and Arizona.
