Roping Chutes

At the opposite end of the arena from all the bronco-riding action, you’ll find the roping chutes where steers are released for the various roping and wrestling events. Cowboys and cowgirls wait on either side of the chute (depending upon the event) and dash after the running cattle.

I have a hard time imaging that anyone can throw a lasso around a steer’s head even when standing still but to do it accurately from the back of a galloping horse while the steer is racing away from you is absolutely amazing.

You can find all of my Dripping Springs Rodeo photos here.
