Nikki in a Spiral

Paris, City of Light, is also the City of Spiral Staircases. If you’re used to those National Park Service warnings about trails requiring strenuous activity then discovering that this means there’s a very slight incline on one part of the route, you’re in for a surprise in Paris. Many of the city’s tourist attractions require seriously strenuous activity along the lines of climbing hundreds of steps inside tightly curled spiral staircases. This shot was taken inside the Arc de Triomphe on the way down from the top. There were something like 400 to 500 steps on this particular stair. Similarly impressive spirals could be found in the towers of Notre Dame and on entrance and exit from the Paris Catacombs.

Thanks, Mike. The trip was fantastic though I still feel somewhat guilty that the only reason I got to go was because of a problem with my niece’s passport.
