As you may know, I’m currently taking a 10 day gap between (day) jobs so last Thursday I treated myself to a whole day of photography, traveling around the area between Schulenberg and Shiner about 90 minutes east of Austin, looking at the famous Painted Churches. My partner in crime for the day was John Rogers and we had a blast shooting brackets in 3 churches and managing to fit in a visit to the Spoetzl Brewery, home of Shiner beer.
This shot shows the second church we visited, Saints Cyril and Methodius Catholic Church in Dubina. All the painted churches were formed in the late 1800s and early 1900s by Czech communities who settled in the fertile arable region between San Antonio and Houston.
This particular church is usually locked but we were lucky enough to arrive while a tour group was there so we got a couple of minutes to take pictures as the group left, before the guide closed and locked the gate once again.
Awesome Dave, love the ceiling!
