I’m sure this shot will bring a lot of head-scratching to non-Texas viewers. It was taken at the Dripping Springs High School homecoming football game about a month or so ago and features a couple of members of the Hi-Steppers dance team sporting “mums”. It’s traditional for young men to give their girlfriends these to wear on the Friday of homecoming week. I suspect the tradition started with flowers (chrysanthemums, I would guess) but grew into what you see here – enormous arrangements of flowers, glitter and ribbons that often stretch almost to the ground when pinned on!
