Garden Spider, Up Close and Personal

Spring is springing very quickly here so it’s almost time to get back out with the macro lens and find some bugs and insects to photograph. Here’s an archive shot from a couple of summers ago showing a Garden Spider (argiope aurantia). These large spiders are fairly common here. The females grow to about 3 inches in diameter and they spin large, intricate webs.

For the technically inclined...

  • Aperture: ƒ/32
  • Camera: NIKON D90
  • Focal length: 90mm
  • ISO: 200
  • Shutter speed: 1/60s
