Crested Caracara

Birds two days in a row – why not? This is a Crested Caracara which is a reasonably common carrion bird in this part of the world (though nothing like as common as the Turkey Vulture or Black Vulture of which you see hundreds every day). Although the national bird of Mexico is the Golden Eagle, it was adopted based on some ancient paintings which people now believe were actually depicting the Caracara instead.

For the technically inclined...

  • Aperture: ƒ/5.6
  • Camera: NIKON D810
  • Focal length: 210mm
  • ISO: 400
  • Shutter speed: 1/250s
