Balls in a Boat, Chihuly Museum

I must admit that I wasn’t much of a fan of Dale Chihuly’s glass art before coming up to Seattle on this trip. What I had seen of it always struck me as somehow too flamboyant. That impression changed on visiting the Chihuly Garden and Glass museum a couple of days ago. Yes, the work is flamboyant but when you see it presented as it is in the museum and get the full impression of the scale of each sculpture, it’s quite something!

This image shows one of the works inside the museum, most of which are set on reflective black panels. Outside, however, the display continues with sculptures displayed alongside the plants in a formal garden. Unlike many other such sculpture gardens, though, the sculptures themselves form “plants” within the floral display. It’s absolutely fantastic.

For the technically inclined...

  • Aperture: ƒ/4.8
  • Camera: CORPORATION
  • Exposure bias: -3/6EV
  • Focal length: 50mm
  • ISO: 3200
  • Shutter speed: 1/60s
